I think it's mostly the media. Unlike men who are attracted to women from first glance, women's attraction towards men is dictated by their environment, community, media, etc. Fashion is an example. Why would most women wouldn't wear a certain style at one time, but most would at another? They wear it based on society's perception of it and what they were taught was cool at the time. Same thing with jewelry. It's not natural to value diamonds, but the diamond industry have done a great job at marketing it and most women love it. Black men were never considered to be attractive...until now. Hip Hop has taken off and we're constantly bombarded by the image of black men and how cool they are. Now it's cool to date black guys! In America, Asian men aren't all over the media like black guys, but in Asia, women just go boy crazy over Asian guys. Any American women who open her mind to Asian entertainment obviously will develop an attraction to Asian guys. Look at it like this, putting sex aside, how many white person would listen to music by Asian ppl? It's very rare because in their society, they're taught to only listen to American music and they wouldn't even give a chance to an Asian singer. It's cool to say you're going to see a Madonna concert....but it's not cool to say you're going to see an Ayumi Hamasaki concert because there is no value in that to them. If anything, it separates them from the pack and a good conversation ender. In America, socially, you're only allowed to talk about American things that everybody else is into. You say you watch 24 or the simpsons, not an Asian show last night.
