New wash machines have a greater volume of water when they pump the water out. The code has changed from a 1 1/2 inch pipe to a 2 inch pipe to accommodate the new machines. A lot of older TLR homes didn't have to meet housing codes when they were built, so many don't even have a 1 1/2 inch pipe. They can't carry the amount of water pumped into them quickly by the machine.

Check the pipe your wash machine drain hose is attached to. If the drain pipe diameter is smaller than 2 inches, write down the actual size it is. Next measure the inside diameter of the drain hose on the wash machine.

Go to the home improvement center, get nipple that will fit inside the drain hose on one end and sit exactly on top of the drain pipe on the other end. Next get a clamp to fasten the nipple inside the drain hose. Lastly get a "band aid" to attach the nipple to the drain pipe. A band aid is a rubber tube that fits over the end of the nipple and the end of the drain pipe. It has two clamps you tighten to hold the nipple on the pipe. (tighten securely to prevent being pushed off by water pressure).

    Your problem is solved.

    Standpipe Drain

suggest a quick way to fix the problem would be by restricting the water flow a bit leaving the washer.. this could be accomplished by installing a slightly smaller fitting at the end of the drain hose. But be certain it is secured tightly,so as not to lose it down the drain.

newer washer pump water out faster than your old one.

    1. dump the water into a sink first, but you likely don't have one.

    2. have someone check the drain under the floor and make sure that it is clean, or replace it with a larger pipe.

    3. install a pipe inside your washer drain pipe to make a smaller opening. this will slow the water down some. check with the maker of your machine before doing this.

Is the washer drain hose opening at the same height as the standpipe opening? The drain needs to be high enough so water wont drain out when its not supposed to. Other than that- need more info.

call a plumber unless you have access to a auger with 50 to 100 ft. cable, its probably full of lent, string, and just gunk that comes out of washers, your old washer would drain ok cause it set the pace with the drain, now you have a new one and its drain pump is a lot more gpm's just because its new, make sense?

Your drain may not be vented properly. This could cause your problem also. How far away is the vent from the drain--if its more than 6 to 8 feet you may have to add one.

You might rent a snake from Home Depot and clean out the drain.

Your main is either plugged or there isn't a proper vent. There needs to be a vent after the stand pipe trap. You can rent a sewer snake or buy a cheap hand one from the big box stores.

So, you are saying your socks getting lost in your washing machine is proof that god exists? What are you smoking and where can I get some?
