The basicity of an acid is the number of replaceable H+ ions present in that acid.

    Ex:-basicity of HCl is 1.

Similarly, the acidity of a base is the number of replaceable OH- ions present in the base.

    Monobasic acid - e.g. HCl (dissociates into 1 H+ and 1 Cl-)

    Dibasic acid - e.g. H2SO4 (dissociates into 2 H+ and SO4 (2-))

and so on... ( depending on the number of protons which are formed upon dissociation)
