Scant means "almost," so slightly less than a tablespoon.

scant means "a little less than." So if your recipe calls for a "scant cup of flour", you would knock a little out of the measuring cup after you've leveled it off. Or a "scant Tablespoon", you knock a little out of the spoon after leveling. Just a quick way to say you don't quite need the entire measuring device full of whatever it is.

"scant" means just a wee bit less than.... so mesure out a level tablespoon, then knock a little out of the spoon, then use what's left in the spoon.

Fill your tablespoon. Instead of leveling it with a knife so that the surface is even with the edge of the spoon, take a little more off.
