WDSU was the first TV Station to broadcast in Louisiana. That was 60 years ago.
The "call letters" (WDSU) are assigned to radio and TV stations by the Federal Communication Commission. Initially these call letters were simply assigned at random. Later new stations could request several different combinations of letters, but the FCC decided which would be assigned. Sometimes the letters made sense for the local area, usually they didn't...which apparently was the case in WDSU's assignment.
