Political memoirs are remembrances written by politicians. Almost every major political figure, particularly Presidents after they've left office, writes a memoir. It is a recollection and record of events which influenced his (or potentially, eventually, her) administration. But, former Presidents are not the only politicians to write memoirs; others who have had notable careers in Government (prominent Senators, for instance) quite often write memoirs. I memoir is simply an autobiographical work with emphasis generally upon memorable episodes in the writer's life.

They are usually a collaboration between the subject of the memoir and a well-known author. Sometimes, they are nothing more than a tell-it-all expose by a close relative and an author. I do not see them all that far removed from any celebrity bio-whatever.
