Preemies need extra special care. Contact your pediatrician if you think he/she is constipated. Don't add anything to the water or formula. You could cause severe diarrhea and dehydration which in a preemie can be life threatening.

How do you know she is constipated? Is she breast or formula fed? The type of poop and the schedule can differ. How old is she? I would be careful not to give her water. Babies don't need water like adults do. Breastmilk is naturally formulated to meet a baby's needs. Formula has been carefully developed to mimic that balance. If you are nursing, just keeping nursing. Either way, call your doctor.

Try giving her an infant-size (1 gram) glycerine suppository - that should make her do a smelly in a few minutes!
