When and where did the term "Madonna" for the Virgin Mary come from?

    Madonna means my lady, it started to be used in medieval times

    The Virgin Mary actually has 119 names.

    To the best my knowledge which may not be correct, but Madonna is an archaic Italian word for Mariam, the mother of Jesus Christ.
