I think it's easy to say no now, cause we have all those quality rap voices and beautiful rap songs.

    But in his hay-day....

I think when you look at this list you really need to take into consideration that its not necessarily about being a typical "American Idol" singer. This isn't necessarily about the highest ability.

It's also about having a unique sound. Something that is recognizable or identifiable as "Bob Dylan" or "Ray Charles". I mean, if you've heard Bob Dylan's music before it is probably a given that when his songs come on the radio, that you are going to know it's Dylan. His sound is different. If all of these singers were so called "American Idol" singers, how would you distinguish who was ultimately better if they all sounded the same?

This list is also about level of success and image.

I'd certainly put Paul McCartney and Robert Plant ahead of Dylan. I can't believe Mariah Carey and Stevie Nicks are that far back! Behind Björk?? Seriously?

No...and I don't agree with Don Henley being so low on the list either...I mean...come on! Axl Rose is 'better' than DOn Henley?!?!?! NO WAY!! sure, he does have a very characteristic voice, but he sucks, let's face it...Don Henley i the whole package...

    ....Rolling Stone's list sucks....

No - He can't sing. Neither can Neil Young. They should both be at the top of great songwriters' list.

Source(s): Aretha # 1? Nope. John Lennon # 5? Nope. This list sucks. I'd put James Taylor near the top. I'd put the Righteous Bros. at #1 and they didn't even make the list.

I think that's a good spot. He is more of a better songwriter than singer.

He is not a singer. But he can write songs

As weird as this might sound, his voice fits his songs, just like Neil Young!!!
