My stove is new and plugs into a standard 120v outlet....but my house is old and i have 240v outlet behind my stove.....currently i just have the stove plugged into another 120v outlet by the kitchen countertop...it works but looks very douchbaggish....what can i do? im pretty good with wiring but im not a electrician
Update : Yes , it is a brand new stove. It is a Kenmore. It was $800 bucks so it better be made for 120v
Update 2: these first 3 answers arent helping.....can someone give me details? so i need to remove the old wire and run a new one?
Update 3: Ralph Z you had the best answer! I would give u 20 points for it if yahoo would let me. But thats the type of answer i was looking for thank you.....Others should use Ralph as an example.......

240 (or 208) is really two 110 V - strapped together.

You can change the breaker to a single phase and... use the RED for a RETURN to the box.

I guess the stove is a gas one and the 120 volt outlet would be for the ignition for burners, clock and maybe light.
You would have to take wires off of breaker in panel, Would be a 2 pole and if it was for an electric range then the wire size is probably #8.

If you do not have a 20 amp 120 volt breaker spare you will need to add one and if no more free spaces in the panel, remove the 2 pole and put in a single one 20amps.
Put the black #8 wire to the new 20amp breaker and the other #8 wire
mark white if it isn't and put it to the neutral bar in panel.

Now remove the outlet and you should tie #12 black and white wires to the #8 wires with wire nuts as the #8 wires are too big for a 20 amp outlet. Hook the # 12 wires to the new outlet and then turn on the new breaker and that is it.

    Just hire a LICENSED electrician.

He will branch off an existing circuit in the house and put in a receptacle where the stove is. This saves LOTS of neck pains, time, and also you know it was done correctly.

I assume your new stove is gas, and the outlet is only for
    ignition and lights etc.
If you know a bit about wiring, look into a 'Wiremold' surface
extension from that existing outlet to a new surface box
    behind the stove.

Ralph Z's answer was right on the money. I would not have done it any different.
