Is it (or would it be theoretically possible) to use bacteriophages as an alternative to antibiotics? Would the bacterium develop immunity to the the virus as easily as to antibiotics? Would the host, who has been infected with a bacterial infection, fight the bacteriophages too?
Thanks and please, no speculation.

i believed they're already used....
in theory it should work, and the bacterium should not develop immunity because phages work completely differently from antibiotics.
ok, i checked, they're in use but not approved in the US for use on people...Source(s): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phage_therapy
