Who was the Doctor who had gone crazy after he had tried to tell people to wash their hands...?

after touching things or going to the bathroom before delivering women's babies and went crazy, because nobody had believed him that washing their hands would save lives, until he died? He saved millions of people's lives and lessened deaths in hospitals, because of his observation on hand washing, and it needing to be done to do anything on a person and to prevent public infection.
