what is standard font size when writing a paper?

What font should i use? What size? I have microsoft 2007, and the first font that pops up is cambria. Should i stick with that font? I usually use the first font that comes up/

Update:

the first font that that microsoft 2007 uses is cambria. Similar to how times new roman used to be the microsoft 2003 font.

The fonts in Microsoft Word are alphabetized, so the first one is not necessarily the most appropriate.

Most teachers/professors prefer that you use either Times New Roman or Ariel in size 12.

They also prefer that you double space your paper and use 1 inch margins.

Use Times New Roman and size 12. If you not sure though ask your teacher. They usually have an opinion.
