movies that can relate to the book "1984"?

long stoy short: in my class, i have this joke where each day i always try to tie in a movie reference or so here and there into our discussions. I've done fine for Beowulf. but now we are starting the book 1984. for those of you who have read it, i can tell by the summary there are probably a lot of movies with some similarities with it, but i cant put my finger on it.

so please, i need suggestions of any movie you can some how relate to the book 1984. whether it be the theme, the story, a specific scene, a chapter, relating character's qualties, anything in any way.

Well, Yahoo Answers won't let me include more than 10 links, so I've had to delete 18! I don't understand why they've set a limit, dammit!

American Psycho worked very well on screen, the book is gorier, and maybe a bit darker, but overall it was a good adaptation. Also, John Grisham's books work very well on film, The Firm, A Time To Kill, Runaway Jury and The Client, all good. One that I don't like at all is The world according to Garp. But I'm not a fan of Robin Williams, I think that played a part. I can't say it ruined the book though, it was just so much better, a completely different experience.

Check out the 'Psycho-pass'. It is a Japanese anime with 1984 themes. 1984 is directly referenced in the anime. There are English dubs available on Netflix and Funimation.

V for Vendetta always reminds me of 1984. Just the whole "Big Brother" theme - that the government has complete control, and is always watching.

Gattica - society that is completely lacking in privacy, genetically controlled with individuals who are perceived as being genetically superior live a life of privilege while those seen as genetically inferior are pushed down into a subservient existence...

And I just love Uma and Ethan. Jude is OK...

    V for Vendetta

    Children of Men

Both have a "Big Brother" aspect to them, and both are enjoyable.

A more recent would be 'V for Vendetta' with a totalitarian state and people with people opposing it.
