For the most part, there is no such thing as a stable full-time job in the film industry.

This is a business that runs almost entirely on networking (who you know). Freelancing (a job-to-job basis) is the way most people exist. Staff positions, particularly in the production end of things (including editing) are rare.

Your boyfriend could look toward marketing vendors who are hired by movie studios to produce EPKs and DVD content. Some major studios do hire staff Editors but he would need a track record to get the job.

You have to also understand that no school or degree will guarantee a job in the professional film industry. Most careers are built on networking, hard work, perseverance, enthusiasm, and passion. If he or you is looking for financial stability, the film industry is not the business for that.
