Is there a V.A.T. in the United States? and what is the rate?

No. Many (but not all) states have sales tax, which is added to the posted price. And in many states not everything is taxed, and the things that are are different in different locations.
Sales tax rates are anywhere from none in Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire, Oregon, and most of Alaska to 10.25% in Chicago depending on location. In addition to the state having a rate, many cities, counties, and other districts.

There is a sales tax in the U.S. It is not called a V.A.T., but is similar. There is no uniform national rates. Rates are set by each state, and sometimes by individual counties or cities. They are typically between 5 and 10%.

But unlike the UK, in the US, the prices are quoted before tax, and the tax added when you go to pay.
