    16 oz = 1 lb.

16 goes into 40 twice to you have 2 lbs.

You have 8 oz left which is half of a pound.

So there is 2.5 lbs or 2 1/2.

    40 Ounces To Pounds

16 oz is in a pound. 2.5 pounds = 40 oz. Liquid ounces are different than dry ounces. So an 8 oz bottle of liquor would weigh more than 8 oz if you weighed the liquid on a dry scale.

16 WEIGHT ounces in 1 pound

so it would be 2.5 lbs, or 2 pounds, 8 ounces

if you are talking about VOLUME ounces, 8 ounces is 1 cup, and a pint (2 cups) is a pound the world around... but thats WATER, so you are looking at 40 ounces, you are still looking at 2.5 pounds

if you are looking at alcohol, which is tecnically lighter than water for volume, its going to be different, usually lighter for 40 volume ounces.

There are 16 ounces per pound in dry weight. The answer then is 2.5 pounds.
