My mum (I'm British) has always been a single mum ever since I was about 3 months old, when my daddy walked out on us both and never came back.
My mum has been so brilliant, I could never have wished for a better mum. And whoever says children who grow up in single parent familys grow up to be failures in life, are so so wrong!
I am becoming a barrister, and that my friends is a very good job.
I do come from Berkshire though so I come from a very good upbringing.
And to answer your first question, mothers who have no man in their life are A LOT stronger, they make decisions for themselves and their children, and will be a lot closer to their kids.
NEVER put down single mothers, I'm sure their children are A LOT more successful thatn yours'.
Edit - AND my mum is very intelligent and runs her own business, and is very successful. She went out and she worked her heart out, to provide for us, and we became a very wealthy family because of her being so strong. She never needs to rely on any man, my mum is an amazing woman.
I love you mum. x
