What do Sumo eat to get so fat?

Okay, from what I understand about the people in Japan, they eat the healthiest and live the longest. Everything they eat is noodles, fish, rice, and other things that are pretty easy on your stomach and doesn't have a whole lot of fat content or calories.

What the heck are Sumo eating to get so fat???

It isn't what they are eating it is how much, being a sumo wrestler is a career so they specifically gorge to get large. It only takes 3500 calories to gain one pound. Noodles and rice are full of carbs which convert to sugar and store as fat if not burned.

You're a bit off on the "healthiest" Japanese being sumo, as they suffer from a disproportionate amount of health problems - you will not find any sumo wrestlers in the centenarian community that Japan is famous for.

Sumo wrestlers are not "fat," per se. They carry a large amount of lean mass with a high body fat percentage, which means they are (for the most part) as muscular as bodybuilders. They'd HAVE to, because it is not exactly the easiest thing in the world to stop a 350-lb mass of flesh slamming into you.

Chanko is the traditional sumo dish but let's be honest - these guys will eat basically anything - burgers, ramen, soba, tempura, etc.

Because being that fat helps them win.

    The reason is.

1,Sumo is done in a very small ring, with no points system.

2.You either win or lose by being pushed out or down.

    3. So a huge fat guy will generally push a smaller guy out when there is not much room to manouvere.

If you opened the ring size up a bit, say to like a judo mat size, and had maybe best out of three matches, you would see smaller leaner guys winning more often, because they would have time to work the big guys around and tire them out.

  • Most of them eat tons of carbs (rice, noodles, etc.). It's not always about the fat content. Much of it has to do with the amount of calories.
