it used to be you got 10 bucks and a suit when you left prison but that's not true anymore.

they just kick you out of jail. often in the wee hours of the morning.

Prison normally. Jail is for people not out on bond awaiting trial or those who have been sentenced for a misdemeanor (officially less that a year usually a couple of weeks).

In prison (penitentiary) you often get a job to do. You get paid a small amount for the work. The money goes into a commissary account. You can buy stuff like snacks and toiletries there. Whatever money is left when you get out you get to keep.

It would be from prison. And the money that your talking about is called gate money. Inmates must request to be able to receive the money.

The money is given to them when they do not have any money, so that they can be able to return home. It's usually enough for them to take a bus back to where ever home is for them.

Also as I have said they must make a request for this money way before their release date in order for them to be able to get this money. Plus they must show that they do not have any money of their own and are in need of it in order for them to be able to get back to their home/state.

I hope that this helps answer your question. God bless.

BTW: Inmates at the prison where I worked were allowed to receive gate money, so that they could get back home. Inmates as I stated had to put in a request for the gate money way before their release date in order to be able to receive it. They also had to show that they didn't have any money of their own in their commissary account.

If they had enough money in their commissary account to be able to get them home, then they were not eligible to receive gate money.

Source(s): Self, Retired Federal Bureau of Prisons, Senior Officer Specialist. At the prison where I worked inmates were allowed to be able to receive gate money to be able to get back home, once they compleated their sentence. They had to show that they didn't have money of their own to be able to receive this money.

WTF are you talking about? You don't get paid for going to jail or prison unless you get a job while your inside.
