It basically means a good book makes it seem like the main character - often the 'hero' - was actually infront of you, doing what it says in the story. Whilst a bad story reveals what the author is trying to do with no sucess.

A good novel completely absorbs you into it and makes you actually see the 'hero' as a real person, whereas a badly written one will just tell you what the author thinks their own flaws are.

With a good novel you 'get into it' . It's real in your mind. A bad novel tells you not to buy his books anymore!
