There is a GREAT Spa in the Arenal area called Tabacon. It is a FIVE-star property located near the world's second most active volcano. They offer many mineral pools that have water superheated by the volcano in varying degrees of temperature.

Tabacon was rated in the top ten eco-spas of the entire world by MSNBC. It is fabulous. They offer full spa treatments, offer varying levels of privacy and even have a swim up bar in one of their pools.

Tabacón Grand Spa & Thermal Resort is 150 kilometers from San Jose, Costa Rica’s capital, on the road that connects La Fortuna to Lake Arenal, in the country’s northern zone. The resort sits near the base of Arenal Volcano, and is surrounded by the wildly diverse flora and fauna of the tropical rainforest.

If you have open travel plans then also plan on at least one night at the Peace Lodge for an upscale experience. Peace Lodge is located on the grounds of La Paz Waterfall Gardens Nature Park and includes use of all the amenities of the park (butterfly and hummingbird preserve). The rooms are designed with unique amenities such as oversized balconies, Jacuzzi tubs, waterfall showers and grand stone fireplaces.

I know and love Costa Rica. I've acted as a personal tour guide/ bodyguard (at a fee) for several well-to-do people. They get a tailored travel itinerary that fits exactly what they want and the assurance of being kept safe.

There are several spas, many in La fortuna of San Carlos, near the Arenal volcano, tabacon is very nice but over priced compared to other places.

Several others are located in San Jose or Alajuela such as the Corobici gym which is a hotel in San Jose with sauna, jacuzzi, weights, pool etc also the D Martino is a nice place in La Garita of Alajuela which is very close to the airport.
