Anyone into arachnology? spider id?
I'm in the desert southwest US.
at first this looked like a crab spider, it is small/medium,9mm body
first pair of legs are 30mm as are the 4th pair.second and 3rd are
slightly shorter with some hairs. the cephalothorax is nearly round,
with a smaller 'boxy' deformed abdomen.(a little like a pholcidae)
it is complety light tan. it has a single eye cluster centerd at the anterialdorsal that resembles a tiny blackberry (4 larger 4 smaller)
the most peculiar thing,is it lacks either chelicera,or pedipalps
it has 2 extentions(like palps) at its anterior that extend up and
forward these are folded double about 4mm at the ends they curve
inward.they look like a pair of tiny 'backhoes',and may have small
fangs at the end. I can't seem to upload pix,but could e-mail
this seems to be very docile, but fairly quick to go defensive.
any clues as to info or taxonomy is greatly appreciated.
aka, southern house spider.
this is the first male I've seen, much less
in the desert.
