Is it true that incest in Japanese families is a tradition?

I have read an article saying that Japanese mothers sleep with their sons during their years in college so that they don't get distracted at school.

Incest is against the rules in all societies, but you know what they say; if it didn't happen, there would be no need for rules against it. In Japan, the Civil Code restricts incest marriages, but incest is not a crime. Incest law was abolished in 1881. There is currently such a taboo on talking about sexual molestation of children that current official figures report only a few hundred cases.
In the late 1980s and early 1990s there was a media panic in Japan about the prevalence of mother-son incest. Mama Love (or Kinshinsokan Monogatari) Clubs began to be opened for men eager to pay large amounts of money to see older women having sex with young men that were promoted as being their son. Women started to come in bringing their own sons or other young boys to watch. Now most of these ‘Mama’ clubs have some type of amateur night for mother/son couples.
The situation is blamed on the excessive motherly love Japanese women shower on their sons; idolizing them and viewing their sons as the greatest object of their hopes, dreams, and love, and Japan's obsessive exam culture.
A boy's whole future can depend on the senior high school he gets into. The mothers get into a psychological condition where they're aware that sexual urges can stop their children from studying and feel that they are the best option for countering the craving. Some mothers will do anything to make sure their junior high school sons pass the all determining entrance exams. Studies show that almost 80% of Japanese men report they have had some form of sexual contact with their mothers with most of the sexual contact between mother and son beginning at a very early age. A boys childhood in contemporary Japan, although somewhat more Western than that of other Eastern nations, still includes masturbation by mothers "to put them to sleep." Parents often have intercourse with their children in the same bed with them, and "co-sleeping," with mothers physically embracing the child, routinely continues until the boy is ten or fifteen. One recent Japanese study found sons sleeping with their mothers over 20 percent of the time after age 16. A recent sex survey reported "hot lines" of sexual abuse saying that mother-son incest in almost a third of the calls, the mother saying to her teenage son, "It's not good to do it alone. Your IQ becomes lower. I will help you, " or "You cannot study if you cannot have sex. You may use my body," or "I don't want you to get into trouble with a girl. Have sex with me instead."

Not an easy answer even after a detailed and varied search.
The arguments are serious and according to Japanese mentality and in line with some public news.
Indeed the competition is so high even at school level that we can understand the mother son incest.
In there point of view the incest works like a protection avoiding adventures with girl so the guarantee the son will not fall in love or wast time with girls instead of studding.
From this point we can admit why father agree or even stimulate the relationship, he don t see the question as incest but just the defense of your son. Also in line with the fact the Japanese husband don t care about his wife for sex matters.

Well, no society ever promotes incest. There can be odd cases but it cannot but the phenomenon for the whole Japanese society. But, one thing is for sure there is more Japanese mom-son Incest porn available than any other. So, there might be some fire which is causing this smoke.

I'm second generation or Nisei (meaning my parents are from Japan) and this is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. I'm sure incest happens all the time in ALL countries, but to say that average Japanese house moms are giving themselves up to their young sons is fraud. I've been watching Japanese TV since I was a child and have never heard of this story. Of course my mother has never attempted anything towards me either. I will admit that Japanese sex culture is "out there" compared to other societies, but this is going too far. It's true that Japanese students went through horrendous school work to pass exams. That's what happens when a country is in an economic bubble (this is what's happening right now in China and Korea). Everything becomes very competitive and employers only want the best. However, this is not why incest happened/happens in Japan. I'm almost convinced that incest happens more in America by sick Bible "humpers".

in fact, i was really curious about this where most of the porn movies talk about mother-son incest,hence, i think this is like an indication that there is high possibility of this happening in Japan and become as part of their culture but at the same time, we cannot generalize this among all japanses families .

Just because some Japanese anime has the characters where it's the sister having a brother complex or the mom having a son complex, doesn't mean real Japanese people would do that in real life.

You have to separate entertainment from reality.

Be realistic, the reason incest is so popular is we in the West have demonized lots of behavior because of 3,000 old religion. We let our religions decide what to forbid and what to approve.
Almost everything forbidden is exciting. Forbid and most will try it to see what they are missing.
Forbid something to a teenager and then watch, because of curiosity, they will try it. Just look at the popularity of weed. All people know hard drugs will kill you eventually but they do them partly because they are forbidden and they must try them.
Genetically, it is good and bad. A "bad" trait is multiplied, a "good" trait is multiplied as both parents pass the good and bad traits and in effect, it is doubled.
We do it to other mammals yet forbid it for ourselves. How do you think we get those purebred dogs? Horses?
Culturally maybe it should bared, but at least think about the facts before spouting off one of your religious beliefs.

seems all of the objection is by those with strong religious views, or conflating rape with sex and of course incompatible DNA producing deformed children. No one ever talks about birth control, loving parents, etc., Its always the extremes that dictate policy.
