Nirvana had the biggest impact on music in the 90's and influenced most bands out there, they're pretty big and that's coming from someone who is absolutely not a fan of theirs.

Alice In Chains have the best front man. Layne Staley was a great vocalist.

But overall, Stone Temple Pilots do it for me. Awesome band in my opinion and they are my pick out of the three.

It depends on the day between AIC and Nirvana. Today is a Nirvana day.

BQ1: Not to be pompous, but it was clearly Nirvana. Nirvana basically made the term Alternative in relation to music obsolete because when Smells Like Teen Spirit hit alternative became mainstream overnight practically. There was half a decade of people tweaking the Nirvana formula (making it harder, making it softer, making it more melodic, more noisy) and raking in 15 minutes of fame for it. Trying to recapture their lost momentum. The other bands were good, and definitely have their place in 90s rock history, but Nirvana was the sort of leader of the movement.

BQ2: Depends on what you're looking at. All in all, I think Cobain had the most effect and became the biggest icon. I think that Chris Cornell had (past tense in respect to getting into the times) the most sheer vocal talent. I find Staley to be the most unique and probably my favorite of the group, and I think Weiland probably had the biggest ego (always important for a rock singer).

As much as I LOVE Soungarden & AIC --

My All-Around Favorite will Always be STP !!

BQ - Even though a lot of bands were already around -- I guess --

    NIRVANA --

-- Having the First Big Success was probably the Most Influential, though I think they are the Weakest of the 4 that you mentioned (Personal taste)

BQ2 -- Well -- All 4 had Great Voices -- and Eddie was certainly "Active"

    But - I would Say That --

    -- LAYNE STALEY -- Hands Down !!

-- had the Most Personality and Intensity - Scott Weiland would be 2nd.

Must have something to do with Heroin ??

Haha, funny, I know someone who loves all of these groups.

I think STP is the best. Not only is their sound quite enjoyable their music is quite complex and skilled.

BA 1 + 2: Both times goes to Nirvana and Kurt Cobain. I don't think Nirvana exactly deserves all the hype they get (a dead singer gets a lot of attention, not all earned either).
