    y = log36(6)

    = log6(6) / log6(36)

    = log6(6) / (2log6(6))

    = 1/2

    Answer: y = 1/2

    By definition, a log is the power to which the base must be raised to equal the operand.

    Here you have log(base 36)6 = y

    Therefore you need to find y as follows

    36^y = 6

    As was noted before by the other answerers, the square root of 36, or stated otherwise sqrt(36), equals 6.

    sqrt(36) = 6

    or written another way

    36^1/2 = 6

    So we find that y is 1/2

    That is, 1/2 is the power to which the base (36) must be raised to equal 6.

    log_base36 (6)

    = log_base36 (√36)

    = ½ log_base36 (36)

    = ½

    36^y = 6

    6^(2y) = 6^1

    2y = 1

    y = 0.5
