What is a registered childminder?
Is it just someone with a childcare qualification or something?x

"Registered" means you are registered with OFSTED, and are licensed to be a childminder. This means providing care and early education in a home based setting instead of a daycare centre. OFSTED will have inspected that childminder to check their suitability and will have done a police check. they then inspect every three years and give a rating, which is available for the public to see. NEVER used a childminder who is not registered.
This does not mean the registered childminder is qualified.
IF looking for childcare - ALWAYS view more than one, get a recommendation, ask to see regististration certificate and any qualifications they may have. Check if that person is insured and a member of the NCMA (National Childminder Association).
There are lots of very good and outstanding childminders out there, but sadly, still a few dodgy ones.Source(s): I am a registered and level 4 qualified childminder! fully police checked and with a "good" rating from OFSTED
