Pond scum in The Sims Castaway Stories?

Question

I have a pond. I can change it to fresh water, swamp bubbles or lava. However, the fresh water is blackish and swimming in it destroys the hygiene need. Is there a way to get fresh, clean water on a home lot (other than being on the beach)?

"Fresh" water is always black, for some reason. I never noticed that it takes hygiene down, though.
