Let the number of questions he answered correct be x.

Hence he answered (12-x) incorrect.

Since 5 points for correct and minus 2 for incorrect,

Total score = 5x -2(12-x)

= 5x - 24 + 2x

= 7x - 24

He scores 39 points so 7x - 24 = 39

7x = 63

x = 9

Thus he got 9 correct

Hope I was of help!

Hi,

I am assuming that he answered all the 12 questions

Let correct answers = x

then incorrect answers = 12 - x

=> 5x -2(12 - x) = 39

=> 5x - 24 + 2x = 39

=> 7x - 24 = 39

=> 7x = 39 + 24

=> 7x = 63

=> x = 63/7

=> x = 9

therefore:

correct answers = x = 9

and incorrect answers = 12 - x = 12 - 9 = 3

Hope to answer you well, keep smiling, bye.

The closest multiple of 5 near 39 is 40 but since 2 points are detducted for a wromg answer this cannot be rite. The next multiple is 45 which agrees if he gave 9 correct and 3 wrong answers.

if he got 12 correct ans. he got 60 points. every incorrect answer that replaces a correct answer he loses 7 pts. so

60-39=21(total no. of pts. lost)/7=3 incorrect, 9 correct
