As far as I know Kemet is the egytian name for Egypt and means "black land". It is derived from the fertile black soils that cover the lands during the annually Nil-flood. Paralelly the desert was called "red land".
Having read a book about Pharao Tutachamun I know that the name Kemet was in use then too.
