Outback American town as in movies?

Anyone know of the name of any American towns like the ones you see in some movies where there are maybe 60 houses and a diner with some lady serving coffee and everyone knows eachother and the sheriff is a friend to all.

So basically a town isolated from most other places with a small close-knit populus

    G'day,

During the summer of 07 I drove thru a large number of towns meeting your description. I drove most of Route 66.

This is, by the way, a marvelous adventure. I highly recommend it.

There are lots of those in the Western states. Wyoming has a very small population- the saying is that there are more cows than people.
