First off, you have the name backwards. It's called the Nintendo DS and it's the latest handheld console by Nintendo (not including the DSi that has already been released in japan and Europe).
It has two screens, which are like a laptop form (they fold up and down); one is a normal screen and the other is a touch screen. It can hold two games at once: a DS game and a GBA game, but can only play one at a time.
DS stands for Dual Screen - hence the two screens.
There are two types of the Nintendo DS: the original Nintendo DS and the Nintendo DS Lite (which is just a slimmer version of the original and it is more compact and comes in different colours. No major differences to gaming).

The Nintendo DS is a handheld videogaming system. You can take it along with you. It can be recharged instead of using normal batteries. DS stands for Dual Screen. It has two screens that are used for different things in different games. You buy games seperately. It uses a stilus (pen thing) and buttons for controls. It is a very usefull and fun gaming machine for kids to adults.

.... the nintendo ds is a handheld like a gameboy but uses dual screens. And i'm pretty sure one of them is touch sensitive considering you can use a stylus.
