Coffee got to Europe in about 1600. It was almost banned as a " devil's drink " . Coffee was then carried to the Americans . A coffee plant was smuggled out of an Arab port for the Dutch , who grew coffee in their colonies . A Frenchman later stole a seeding from the Dutch . And in Brazil , a love affair with a French woman helped get coffee into that country . Not many foods have such an exciting history !

Today a cup of coffee is easy to find . But next time you choose between a latte and cappuccino , think about all the history and secrecy behind the cup .
