Do you have to be with AT&T to have an iPhone?

If so, why? And, can I have one cell with Alltel/Verizon and the iPhone with AT&T?

Elaborate please!

Update 2:

no you don't. you do need to find a SIM unlocked phone, which is kinda difficult. i've seen some on ebay but there is a difference between an unlocked phone and a sim unlocked phone and only the sim unlocked phones can be used on other carriers. can i ask why you would want two cell phones? i wouldn't want two phones its just one more bill to pay.
