I work at a local magazine and have worked at a few newspapers...I want to do national mag work one day too.

The work? Depends what you want to do. Write? Art Direct? I write and it's a breeze.

Just keep your eyes open for opportunities.

The most important thing is this: start. Anywhere, everywhere you can. Anyplace that will publish you. Accumulate a portfolio.

A well put together portfolio will serve you more than any classes in a college. (I'm not discouraging going to college, but this is true).

A portfolio is just a collection of clips, articles, pictures of anything in print that you wrote or worked on.
