Atrio-ventricular valves, also called tricuspid (having three flaps) on the left side and bicuspid (having two flaps) on the left side, lso called Mitral valve. They both do the same job. They close when the pressure in the ventricles exceeds the blood pressure in the atria. This occurs during ventricular systole when the ventricle walls contract to push the blood out of the heart through the pulmonary and aortic valves into, respectively the pulmonary artery and aorta.
