Find the absolute maximum and absolute minimum values on the given interval [1/2, 2] of f(x) = x - lnx.?

    differentiate the function, then find where the rate of change is zero by setting the left side of the derivative equation to zero to get an x -value(s). if the x value(s) are between 1/2 and 2 use the f(x) and that x value(s) to solve for the y value(s).
