Virus! Why did take so long to show up?

I was gone about month, and someone was on my computer downloading Porn. I found this out just recently.

The Computer appeared fine for a couple of weeks then- ZAP, all hell is breaking loose with this Computer.

Why did it take so long for the virus to show up??

a lot of malware is designed to sleep for a period of time, during which it silently compromises your system and installs more nasties. Running an antivirus such as AVG along with anti-malware software such as spybot s&d, adaware and windows defender will prevent this from happening.

Sounds like a trojan downloader was downloaded. A trojan downloader can be programed by the bad-guys to connect your computer to the internet and download malware (virus) day, weeks, even months after the downloader got installed on a computer. By whatever means.

It is for this reason that System Restore (as someone suggested) is NOT a good and acccepted method of virus removal...one never knows the exact date of the first infection. It might have been a year ago!

BTW, not all malware comes from the downloading of porn. In fact most isn't. P2P file-sharing (Limewire etc) and social engineering exploits (tricking the user into downloading what appears to be a legitimate program, but is in fact malware) are are where much of today's viruses and other malware come from.

Restore your Computer to an earlier time/date and it will erase all of that junk.

    start menu

    all programs

    accessories

    system tools

    system restore
