How do you solve this equation?

Write an equation to model each situation. Then solve.

Suppose a video store charges nonmembers $4 to rent each video. A store membership costs $21 and members pay only $2.50 to rent each video. For what number of videos is the cost the same?

    21 + 2.5x = 4x

    Subtract the 2.5x from both sides making it...

    21= 1.5x

    Divide both sides by 1.5 and you answer is 14. (14x4=$56) (2.5x14=35 + your 21 membership = $56.

    4x = 21 + 2.5x

    1.5x = 21

    x = 14
