    Shakespeare lived from 1564-1616; he retired when the Globe burnt down in 1613. The first play performed in the Globe when it was built in 1598 was Julius Caesar, and the next was Hamlet (so there's a slight time line...) It is estimated that Shakespeare wrote it between 1599 and 1601-hopefully that helps. It was an older play often made fun of for being overly dramatic, but Shakespeare essentially revolutionized it.

    but he did write a play called Hamlet
