In writing, what is the proper punctuation for someone thinking a thought? Is it in quotes? Italicized?

Thank you

Italicized is the proper way, but it really depends on writing style. I've seen it done numerous different ways (single quotes, italics, the thought in parentheses, between ellipses just to name a few).

    Usually it's in italics.
