Why would a illegal trust unknown smugglers to smuggle in their child in US is this child neglect?
Federal officials arrested two undocumented immigrants in connection with the alleged kidnapping of a 4-year-old boy from Guatemala, they announced Wednesday.
Marleni Garcia-Velasquez called the West Palm Beach police Oct. 21 and told them smugglers she had hired to bring her son into the United States threatened to harm him unless she came up with $3,000. They held the boy in Mesa, Ariz., according to a police report.
The police called in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which arrested Marcelino Ramirez-Velasquez, 34, of Guatemala, and Jose Luis Torres-Pais-Paez, 25, of Mexico, They're each facing one count of kidnapping, a class two dangerous felony and dangerous crime against children charge and one count of theft by extortion, a class four felony. Both defendants were indicted on Oct. 31 by a Maricopa County, Ariz., grand jury.
The boy's trip started four months ago, Garcia-Velasquez told police, when the alleged smugglers picked him up at his uncle's home in Guatemala. It ended after investigators used a cell phone picture of the boy in Spider Man pajamas and recorded phone conversations to track him to a hotel. The boy was found in good health, said Armando Garcia, assistant special agent in charge of the ICE Office of Investigations in Phoenix. He was put in foster care until a DNA test can prove the familial relationship, he said. If the test comes out positive, the family will be reunited in about a week, Garcia said.
The boy's mother, an undocumented immigrant, was detained by immigration officials, then released with an order to appear before an immigration judge. She faces deportation to Guatemala.http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/local/palmbeach/s...
Why isn't the mother being charged with child endangerment ?

Oft touted family values from south of the border?
Don't worry! If they lose some they know how to make more!

The mother should be charged as the child was caught and she provided money that is a crime to pay someone to smuggle in someone. We do not need Guatemala's permission to bring charges of child endangerment and paying smugglers a fee to remit an illegal act. At what point do illegals have to stand up and take responsibility for their actions ? Why does being illegal mean you are not required to act with good judgement and paying a smuggler is a crime. How many want to bet the mother shows up for a court date ?

It's kind of hard to charge an illegal alien with an American Crime when the agreement to transport the child here illegally from Guatemala, originated in another counrty. This is something that would have to be addressed with the home country.
Immigrants do this kind of thing everyday...whether it's their kids, mom, dad, sister, brother or grand parents. This is how they try to bring the whole family, if they can afford it.
What gets me is how come they accuse the "coyotes" of kidnapping, when the woman knew she had to pay them to bring the child. Is she really that stupid? You also never pay until they're here and safely delivered.
Why also do you think people end up in slave labor situations? Because someone didnt pay up when they were supposed to!

This is another reason we should secure our borders. If we secured our borders then it would put most human smugglers out of business. This would save approx. 500 illegal aliens lives per year and keep them from being expoited for slave labor once they are here.
Walk a mile in my shoes as the father of one of the 60,000 good American citizens killed over the past 7 years by illegal aliens.

Any parent who would does this deserves execution under the law. It is the lowest thing any parent could ever do to a child. And they claim to come here for their families. If this is family values, we don't need them.

Surely she saw being in the US and getting her child here as a matter of survival (though I can't imagine Guatemala being that bad) so she made a very risky choice, just like Elian Gonzalez's mother "endangered" her son by floating on an inner tube to get him to Florida from Cuba.

Because they obviously don't care about their children or what happens to them. Trust plays no part in it.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. Maybe the mother felt their lives where in even more danger if they stayed in Guatemala. I guess you don't know what someone feels until you walk in their shoes. All I can do is try to understand her.
