    Der Opa. Omi/Oma/Opa are the names that children use for their grandparents, like nanna, nanny, gran, pops, etc. in English.

    grandmother = Großmutter (pretty formal)

    grandfather = Großvater

    grandma = Oma, Omi

    grandpa = Opa, Opi

    i personally don't use "omi" or "opi" at all. it's mainly used by small children talking directly to their grandparents but hardly when talking about them.
