# How do i calculate the size of a planet if 24 hours on the planet is 960 seconds?

How do i calculate the size of a planet if 24 hours on the planet is 960 seconds?

This is a hypothetical planet....

I know it wouldn't be considered a planet but how big would it be?

Ummm... by definition 24 hours is ALWAYS 86,400 seconds.

I'm guessing you mean it rotates on it's axis in 960 seconds?

Even then, there is no uniform rotational velocity based on diameter or radius. If there were, Venus and earth would have almost identical rotational periods, but instead, earth rotates on its axis (relative to the stars, not the sun) once in 23h 56m and Venus rotates on its axis once in about 243 earth days... But they have exceedingly close to identical diameters.

• Wow, 960 seconds is equivalent to 24 hours? Your planet rotates in its axis very fast!

Assume earth's size or diameter to be 100,000 miles and it rotates in its own axis in 24 hours or 86,400 seconds.

Let X = Your planet diameter

By Ratio & Proportion :

100,000/86,400 = X/960

X = (960x100,000)/86,400

X=1,111.11 miles (the size of your hypothetical planet)
