Butterfly knives are not named specifically by the statute, but the Texas law's definition of a "switchblade" uses language that includes them:
"opens or releases a blade from the handle or sheath by the force of
gravity or by the application of centrifugal force."
Centrifugal force is the manner which one opens a butterfly knife, and the courts have ruled more than once that they are illegal to carry on your person.
Yes, you and I know that butterfly knives in reality are not switchblades, but that's how they wrote the law in Texas.
