Well wood is from a tree, except it has been chopped or shaped down to the desired shape or form for specific use, and is dead.

A tree is living, takes in carbon and releases oxygen, and absorbs water as well as produces things for animal consumption or use.

Wood can't do what a tree does and is dead, and tree is beautiful and helps the planet.

I really do hope this helps. =D
