There is a word that is driving me to distraction. ?

It is not so much the word, but the lack of that particular word. Basically translated it means "It is what it is". You know...Why is the sky blue? Why is the grass green? It is what it is. I know there is a specific word describing the is what it is phenomenon, but for the life of me I can't remember what that word is!

self-evident, axiomatic: evident without proof or argument

    or...

intrinsic: Of or relating to the essential nature of a thing; inherent.

I'm not sure exactly what you're looking for. As for your example questions, they have answers (scientific explanation) beyond just "they are what they are".

Are you talking about a question like: "why does this make you happy?"...like more of an abstract concept??
