# Help with physics question regarding Power?

A 1000kg elevator carries a maximum load of 800kg. A constant frictional force of 4x10^3 N retards the elevator's motion upward. What minimum power, in kilowatts, must the motor deliver to lift the fully loaded elevator at a constant speed of 3.0 m/s?

Answer is 66 kW.

Power = Force x Distance / Time = Force x Speed

The motor must overcome the sum of the weight and the friction force.

Hence required power = (1800 g + 4000) x 3 = 66 kW, assuming g=10m/s²
