Conservation of energy means that energy can neither be created or destroyed. ie. it doesn't just pop into existence or disappear, during physical processes it can transform into other kinds of energy, but the total of this energy is exactly equal.

eg. in a simplified system, you drop a ball, it has X kinetic energy while falling, when it strikes the ground it transforms its energy into A heat, B sound and C transfer of kinetic energy to the earth. Where A+B+C = X
