You should definately tell someone. They wont lock you up or tell anyone. The only time they might put you in hospital is if there is a real threat to yourself, or your families safety.
Getting help can really change your life, and when you are with a psych you must tell them EVERYTHING for them to properly diagnose and treat the problem.
And I'll just add in my own story - I have bipolar disorder and have attempted suicide twice through overdosing on pills. The second time I did it was the REAL wakeup call - as soon as I had swallowed them I regretted it. I went to hospital and had to go into intensive care, I almost died. And what was going through my head was "No! This cant be happening, why did I DO that?!?!!? Please dont die please dont die please dont die" I didnt WANT to die. I didnt want my family and friends to know I had killed myself.
I was incredibly ill for a few days, lost my eyesight and so hysterical I was put on a lot of valium. And of course, I had to go to a mental hospital after that - but it didnt make a difference because when you almost die, you really, TRUELY realise how much you want to live. And its a pretty big mistake to make.
I am so grateful I am alive and really feel for you, I know what its like to feel that way but my advice is - before suicide you might as well try everything else first. Try a psych, try moving to another country, try getting tattoos?
Why not try a bit of everything life has to offer before you end your life, you never know, one day you might realise you feel better and have found something to make you happy.
